And That’s A Rap: Ju Ben Wins Pacific Break!
Written by Alex Elbourne on November 10, 2023
Over 360 entries from across the Pacific. 360 plus talented Pacific artists vying for the Pacific Break title. And at the end of it all, Fijian rapper Peni Roqara better known as Ju Ben stood the tallest. Ju Ben, who at one point worked in the sugarcane industry, won for his song Sema Mai.
With his laidback vocals, and lyrical flow, Sema Mai, which Ju Ben raps in the iTaukei language impressed the judges of Pacific Break enough to have them award him the top prize. Ju Ben will now perform at WOMADelaide, Australia’s largest international music festival next year. If you have not seen it yet, check out Sema Mai and other songs from Ju Ben in his swiftly approaching iconic “Live From The Teitei” Performance.
