LION PRIDE: Excitement around long-awaited Suva Grammar School Jubilee builds
Written by Alex Elbourne on February 23, 2024
With delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, it is understandable that the former scholars of one of Fiji’s most prominent schools Suva Grammar are beginning to feel the excitement and anticipation of their “pride” coming together in May of this year for the Diamonds Are Still Forever Jubilee as the school celebrates another milestone in its rich and storied history.
Scheduled to begin on Saturday 18th May with a Reign March from the Suva Flea Market to Albert Park and from there to the school, the march is expected to kick off what will be a big week with floats from the various decades. The school will host the Grammar Fest which is a festival for all artisans and artists.
Sunday 19th May, as is fitting will see Grammarians of all years gather together for a church service to give thanks to the Almighty for such an auspicious occasion. Monday 20th May is expected to be hosted by the 60s/70s decade who will most likely hold a Garden Party. Tuesday 21st May sees the Lions and Lionesses from the 90s decade hosting the Ultimate Bus Ride an ode to something that was prevalent in the 90s and still makes 90s kids wonder: Why?
Wednesday 22nd will be all about the 80s with a dinner at the Royal Suva Yacht Club and a Disco Ball. Thursday the 23rd of May sees the Millennial Old Scholars of the school with hosting duties. Friday the 24th of May sees the old scholars at their school for a cleanup and sponsorship drive.
The weeklong celebrations culminate on Saturday 25th May with The Grand Finale Ball. All in all, it promises to be a wonderful time for those who were reared in the Lions Den to come together to reminisce, reconnect, reignite and roar the loudest.
Congratulations to all the members of the Grammar family, past and present and we wish you all the best for your jubilee!
