Meet 18 year old Jasmine Daunakamakama, one of Fiji’s few female boxers. After training seriously for about five years, the 18-year-old recently had her first professional fight in the super lightweight category. According to Daunkamakama when asked why she chose boxing, a sport normally not associated with women in Fiji she states that loves the thrill of the sport and the excitement of knowing that she has trained hard for this moment
Daunakamakama’s grandfather was a well-known amateur boxer in Fiji, and her father, who is now one of her coaches, introduced her to the sport at nine years old. She also trains with Joseph Kwadjo and has said her dream is to show other young Fijian girls that boxing is a beautiful sport and is one they can choose to take up
Daunakama recently won a Silver medal at the Junior & Youth Oceania Boxing Championships in Samoa. Congratulations Jasmine and we can’t wait to see your boxing career unfold!
