Sam Matavesi: I Lost My Mum at 13 And Did not Deal With My Loss Until Covid

Fiji Water Flying Fijians hooker Sam Matavesi recently took to the What A Lad podcast and talked about his life and what makes him tick. In a very candid interview the Flying Fijians hookers spoke on a wide range of issues.

The episode discusses his incredible journey of being the young talent who’s drinking and poor work ethic held him back from going professional out of school. To where he is now playing for Northampton in the English premiership and of course Fiji at this RWC. He also reveals he had a chance to go professional straight out of school but he was in a bad place and did not have the necessary work ethic to do well in rugby. Matavesi opens up too about the loss of his mum to suicide when he was 13 and how it devastated him and did not process his feeling until many years later.
