Remember the 2000b Sydney Olympics?
23 years later, the New South Wales government announced that the eastern grandstand of Accor Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park will be known as the Cathy Freeman Stand.
It’s the same venue Freeman lit the flame to start the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and then won the 400m gold medal in what is one of Australia’s most iconic sporting moments.
Freeman donned the Aboriginal and the Australian flags around her shoulders after bringing 112,524 fans inside the stadium to their feet, as well as a reported 8.8 million spectators around the country.
