New Kids On The Block just released their new song Take Back The Time and the video clip is a tribute to the 80’s. It’s that gentle reminder of a time where mullets were cool and even the simplest dance moves could go viral.
The video is directed by John Asher, the band including Donnie Wahlberg, Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntrye and Danny Wood – show up dressed in fulls 80’s attire to recreate some of the the most classic videos from the era. To add to the overwhelming wave of nostalgia, En Vogue, Salt-N-Pepa and Ricky Astley make guest apperances.
“Like Rick, we roll / New Kids, En Vogue / Plus a pinch of Salt-N-Pepa / Season it, here we go,” Salt raps with Pepa during the interlude.
Fans of the’80s one-hit-wonders will recognize references to music videos for songs like “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley, “Whip It” by Devo and “Mickey” by Toni Basil mixed in with hits like “Rio” by Duran Duran, “We’re Not Gonna Take It” by Twisted Sister and more. Even if you weren’t around in the ’80s, the sheer meme potential alone is worth every second of this hilarious video.
The tribute comes just a few years after NKOTB gave us a history lesson in boy bands with their “Boys in the Band (Boy Band Anthem)” video. Sensing a theme? Watch the full “Bring Back the Time” video below to see how many classic ’80s music video references you can spot.
If anything you can tell how much fun they had in shooting the video as it should be!
