May 29th: 70th anniversary of the first human ascent to Mt Everest

May 29: Today is the 16th International Everest Day and the 70th anniversary of Everest. The day marks 70 years since the first successful ascent of Mt Everest, the world’s highest peak.
On this day in 1953, Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary set foot on Mt Everest for the first time.
“May 29 is a day when we all always remember and be proud of when Edmund Hillary and Tenzing (Norgay) Sherpa reached the top of Everest and it is the day the Sherpas became known,” Sanu Sherpa said.Sanu Sherpa, has climbed all of the world’s 14 highest peaks twice.
As part of the celebrations Sherpa Guides were also being honored with medals presentations amongst other celebrations.
