Theme for 2021: Digital Generation. Our Generation
The International Day of the Girl Child focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.
At the World Conference on Women in Beijing IN 1995 , the need for an event focused on young and vulnerable girls was identified. A resolution to declare October 11 as the International Day of the Girls Child was adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 19, 2011.
This year, the theme “Digital generation. Our generation,” acknowledges the growing digital world and how a digital gap can also further widen the gender gap.
Now while technology may not be as advanced and accessible as compared to developed countries we can still give our girl child and young women equal opportunities.
