The man behind the 2000 coup in Fiji, George Speight, and the head of the mutineers, former soldier and CRW leader Shane Stevens have been granted Presidential pardons and have been released today.
After seeking a pardon through the Mercy clause, the two are among seven pardoned by the Mercy Commission, during its meeting held on 18th September 2024, who reviewed the petitions.
The question now is after over 20 years incarcerated, how will Speight adapt to the new world he walks into and more interestingly, are there any secrets from the events of 2000 he may have kept over the years that may be brought to light now that he has regained his freedom.
